Dingo Race Day: Top Tips for a Cracking Time

Posted 15 Aug

Dingo Race Day ain't just any old race day—it’s a ripper of an event that’s all about good times and great company in the heart of Central Queensland. Before you get your boots on, here are three things you should know to make the most of your day at the races.

Chuck on Your Best Clobber

Just because Dingo's a small town doesn’t mean you can slack off in the fashion department. "Fashions on the Field" is a big deal, so blokes, dust off your best shirt and maybe even a suit if you’re feeling flash. Ladies, it’s time to rock those bright dresses and fascinators. And don’t forget, the Queensland sun doesn’t mess around, so slap on some sunscreen and maybe a hat too.

It’s Not Just About the Races, Mate

Sure, the horses are the main attraction, but Dingo Race Day’s got a lot more going on. There’s live music, heaps of stuff for the kids, and food that'll make your mouth water. Local bands and DJs will keep the vibe going all arvo and into the night. And if you’re feeling peckish, there’s food vans on hand, or better yet pre-order a catering box from Emerald business Cracked Pepper Catering - Tuscan Chicken Avo & brie slider anyone?! 🤤

Sort Out Your Travel and Crash Pad Early

Dingo’s a small joint, and while it’s got plenty of charm, places to stay can fill up quick smart on race day. If you’re coming from out of town, you’d better book your digs early.

Whether you’re setting up camp at the racetrack or bunking down in a nearby town, planning ahead means you won’t be left in the lurch.

And of course you don’t want to be driving after a big day of celebrating so make sure to jump on one of our L&F buses that are doing the run between Blackwater, Bluff and Dingo morning and night.

Send us a pic of your group with/in one of our buses for a mystery prize!

Bonus Tip: Start your training now for the Trap Throwing

At the conclusion of the horse racing there’s a chance for personal fame and accolades, not to mention a cash prize, with the Trap Throwing Competition. Now chucking a trap ain’t as easy as you might think; be sure to get a tight grip, keep a wide stance, aim for a point in the distance, and follow-through as you release. Extra points for a good grunt!

The current record holders are Chelsea Olive (29.2m) and Mark Dunne (47.3m), we’ll shout you a drink if you beat ‘em!

Tickets are selling fast so be sure to get in super quick and nab yours now! There will be no tickets on the gate.
